Narbik’s excellent bootcamp

Ok, I’m feeling jet-lagged so I’ll just summarize here. Basically, Narbik’s bootcamp surpassed my expectations for a bootcamp. There was this great feeling I had the whole time of feeling ready and Narbik bringing us closer to the finish line. As most of you may already know, Narbik uses all whiteboard, and no powerpoint or overhead projection. THANK GOD! getting down in the trenches with us by drawing out all talking points just keeps you in tune and keeps the dialogue bidirectional.

So what else set Narbik apart? This bootcamp was fun. It was involved. He skipped over what we knew as the basics and got right down to the point on most topics. And when you thought you knew something… POW! You knocked you upside the head with fundamental scenarios that begged to differ.  What I really liked, is we were’nt follwing every keystroke while he configured an entire topology, watch us lab the whole time or try to dazzle us with his knowledge of english composition nor drink champagne with the aristocracy pinky finger up. This dude was straight down to earthand I loved that we got at least half the time in lecture. I mean, seriously, why the hell would I pay to go lab in a hotel banquet hall? I can do that at home for free. I want to have an interactive exploration of our favorite subjects and thats precisely what I got.  You don’t go there to feel smart. Join a bookclub if thats the case. You go there to be humbled and learn from it.

So what didn’t I like? Eh, the location got changed at the last minute when I had my hotel reservations already, but it was only 10 min farther, so thats just plain old bitching. But LA traffic blows. And 9am start time was later than I expected, but then again, more bitching.

Above all, it’s great to have a mentor in front of your face to answer and demonstrate you questions. Want to know the best part? I’ve made a habit of citing conflicting information from different sources, footnoting who it was said from. Then I put some of it to the test with Narbik. Well, lets just say he destroyed my footnotes and I enjoyed it.  Btw, I don’t think Narbik sleeps… at all.

Thanks Luis but please answer 2 basic questions :
    1) How much do you have to know already to really take advantage of this 12 hours a day ordeal ?
    2) If you were at that level how long would it take to go for the exam ,after the class, with good chances of passing it ?
Narbik is kind of promising 80% first try , 60-70% higher than it is now for the average candidate.
I’ll be going to his class in UK and I am a bit puzzled by how somebody can actually cover OSPF in 4-5 h only.

  2. Marc Says:

How far into your CCIE studies do you think would be beneficial to attend this bootcamp. I’m still studying for written and haven’t completed any multi protocol labs yet.

  3. Luis Garcia Says:

Do it right away. Why not? Once you pay, you can re-attend for free. So, knock out some basic technology specific labs, then go. Before you take the lab, go again.

  4. Rakesh Says:

how were the labs done ? i mean does narbik go ahead and demonstrate the labs or does he assist you in labbing up … i am planning to get his work books what do you suggest about the workbooks part

    Thanks
    Rakesh

  5. cciejourney Says:

How was the new setup/hotel ?

  6. Rob Says:

I can help answer some of these.

Marc- I had not done any labs or passed my written when I first attended. Nothing like trial by fire IMO. If you have the time/money, I would go. It will motivate you to finish your written faster.

Rakesh-Labs are basic to complex in that order and by technology. For example:
    RIP
    1. advertising routes
    2. timers/updates/validate update/triggered
    3. authentication
    4. prefixes/default routes/route-map/summarization
    5. unicast/broadcast/multicast updates
    6. slow link/slow router
    7. offset list/hop count manipulation

No demonstration of labs, but very self-explanatory.

IMO, no sense to waste a bunch of time doing multi-protocol labs if you don’t know/understand all aspects of each protocol. You will know or figure out what you did not know before when finishing Narbik’s labs.
    Then try multiprotocol challenges.

    hth,
    Rob

  7. Luis Garcia Says:

Ok @ Rakesh, labs are done after lecture, which you do on your own and call Narbik over when you have questions. You paid, so ask away! I personally think labbing is just as effective at home asking questions by email.

@cciejourney, the hotel was the Hilton at glendale, and it was roomy enough with a decent buffet upstairs. Coffee blows

@Giorgio P, I’d say hit the lab a few weeks later. The bootcamp is sort of an eyeopener, to wake you up, then lab a few weeks i guess. Oh the OSPF day was more than 5 hours man. plus he skips the baby stuff like (what is a link state protocol?). He gets right down to what you been wanting to know. He pretty much knows what the secret inner questions students harbor and answers those, so you have few questions at the end of the day

I was so looking forward to the April 27 class and now it got canceled. I already made travel arrangement that I cannot get refund. I don’t know when I will be able to take time out to attend upcoming class because I have projects line up all the way till end of the year.

    BTW everyone,
I have added MPLS to the 2.0 Boot Camp, well….if Cisco addds MPLS to the R&S, my students will be more than ready and they don’t have to have a panic attack, and if Cisco does NOT add MPLS to the R&S, it will be pretty good for them to know that, because no matter where they go, MPLS will be in the mix. Besides i like them to shoot for the SP track after they clear their R&S.

    Good luck all

  10. Razvan Iliescu Says:

What about the Security track ? Do you plan on releasing some workbooks or bootcamps ? Thank you

  11. Narbik Kocharians Says:

No not yet, but the next track that we will be offering is SP and Voice.

The new stuff will be the Boot Camp 2.0, Advanced CCIE Work Book 2.0 and VoD for R&S.

  12. Giorgio P. Says:

Narbik will the 2.0 material available for the UK R&S bootcamp ?
    Thank you

  13. Narbik Kocharians Says:

    Yes.

This is going to be simply the BEST.

  14. Drew Says:

When is the VOD coming out I need to start saving my pennies

  15. Amit Says:

It is year now that showed on Narbik’s site that COD is “coming soon” only Narbik or God knows when will this come out. I am waiting a year and it is let me down. The process is quite dead slow….. and no one know the release time except “Coming soon” sorry I bit harsh here…..

  16. Amit Says:

One more thing to add here, think about drew , if you purchased this product 8/9 months back just because it was showed the better price and “coming soon” tag on vendor site so if the product is delay and no confirmation from vendor about release date then what will happen with your study , are u postpone you Lab date or just angry what vendor do with your hard earn money? Vendor should understand this thing that they will show only those product on their site which they have comfortable to release in next one/ two months or at least they have deadline to complete??

  17. Sunil Says:

Agree with you Amit , I have see this almost year now and no confirmation about COD release. I was willing to purchase this COD in last june/july and thanks to god I have not purchase it. it is suprise that it is still show on their site and you can pay right away through paypal , quite strange that they ask payment for those products which has no release date

Drew - I recommed to you do not wait , if u want COD than invest IPexpert COD or Internetworkexpert 2.0 program.

    Sunil

  18. Narbik Kocharians Says:

    Amit,

First of all we have NOT charged anyone or sold any product that is NOT ready to go.
Secondly i am sorry for your disappointment, but I will NEVER put VOD out there unless its the BEST.
If you are that disappointed, then, you should try another vendor, which i am sure you have.
The VODs will be OUT within the next 30 days, it will be sold on a protocol basis.
If you need the OSPF, then you purchase OSPF and NOT the whole thing.
But our new product “Foundation/GAP 2.0″ is OUT now and my website will show that product on Tuesday. Its sold as a PDF ONLY.
Another product that will be available my the end of next week, which i believe its the BEST, is my new “Advanced CCIE Work Book 2.0″
My Boot Camp 2.0 is almost finished and the next class which is May 11th in Glendale, will SEE the new boot camp 2.0 material. I am sure you will hear comments….
My OSPF and Eigrp VOD will be out within the next 30 days. Once you check the quality you will see the difference.

Now these are dates for products that i can commit.
Once again if you are looking for quality, then, this is it, but if you are looking for quick, low quality stuff, you are thinking of the wrong vendor.
Have you ever attended our Boot Camp?
I am shooting for 80 percent passing and I WILL GET IT.

  19. Amit Says:

Thanks Narbik , sorry I was bit harsh in my statement , The problem is that I want to attend your bootcamp but you have not schedule bootcamp in India. Previously your site had showed the India date (June 09) but it is now removed, this bootcamp was economical for me if it schedule in India. Yes, I was disappointed that you are not coming and I think that if u releases the VOD in time then at least I go through your lecture before appearing in exam. I have not raise any question about your product because I knew that it is best, just frustrated, I am not a part of your bootcamp.

    Thanks
    Amit Chopra

  20. Narbik Kocharians Says:

    Oo i see,

But we rescheduled the date and the new date should be up on our website soon. Please check within the next 4 to 5 days.

    Thanks

  21. Christian Says:

sweeeet, I will be in Glendale for the May 11 bootcamp, excited to begin with and now even more excited about Boot Camp 2.0!

  22. Narbik’s 2.0 Material and Class On Demands Releasing Soon : CCIE Journey Says:

  23. Evan Weston Says:

Thats so awesome, Im also going to be at the May 11 bootcamp. Can’t wait!

  24. Marc Says:

This place is getting a little dusty, no new posts in nearly a month?

  25. Amit Says:

    Hi Narbik

is Advance tec 2.0 workbook rewritten completely or add some labs in existing labs in Advance Tec workbook.

  26. Ferret Says:

    Marc,

How do you think your approach worked? Could you keep up with the rest of the class? How have your studies progressed since going on the bootcamp?

  27. Rafi Says:

    Hello
I passed CCNA,CCNP long time, recertified. I just read and practise with simulator. I dont have any router /switch access. So can i attend Narbik bootcamp? I think i will be slowest , so what is the requirement for Narbik bootcamp?

    Thanks

  28. Rafi Says:

    Hi
CCNA/CCNP can not go to bootcamp?

    Raf

  29. Alex Dean Says:

    HI Luis,

    1. What is the duration of this boot camp?
    2. Having dedicated pods or simulation?
    3. How prepared you were, and after boot camp within which period is recommended to sit for the exam?
    4. Compared to Harith (WinNET Systems UK) how would you compare the teaching style and lab equipments and dedicated pods?
    5. I have decided to attend to WinNET, they have a pass guarantee and have more than 250 CCIE’s so far and more.. how does Narbik Pass guarantee works?

Thank you.. I am desperate to get through my labs..

  30. ljankok Says:

    @Amit

I have just been to the bootcamp in London. The workbooks are reworked and expanded. I have seen parts where the explanations have been expanded and new tasks have been added.
The workbook style is like a telling a story.

  31. Olu Says:

    Narbik,

DO you ever plan to add more locations to your bootcmap location.

For example, it will be nice if you can include one location on the North Eastern coast, like Newark/Middletown (NJ) or Boston (MI)

  32. Jose Says:

Hi Narbik where can i find info about your bootcamp??
