Switching Day 3-4
I’ve spent the last two days finishing up Narbik’s Bootcamp workbook for switching.  I jumped ahead in my studies a bit and went over the queuing on the 3560 switches.Â
This happened to coincide nicely with a QOS configuration at work on some 4507 & 3750 switches. The 4507 is a tad bit different, but fundamentally the same. Input queue scheduling, priority/expedite queue, etc. I read through the 3560 QOS section of the Cisco Documentation site a few different times. (my lunchtime and before bed reading material) It has to be one of the easier to follow sections of the 3560 Software Configuration Guide. This picture especially was worth a thousand words (or maybe a thousand study seconds) to me. It helped me envision where each of the steps in 3560 queuing / scheduling take place. Simple, I know, but it helped kick start my understanding of this particular technology. 2 ingress queues / 4 egress queues with the ability to do weighted tail drop on each queue
I have 2 days (okay maybe 3) of switching left as I feel that I need to have this technology pretty well covered before Jan 30, 2009. I am almost back on schedule and I hope to be completely back on schedule after the weekend. (marathon time)Â
Oh, I did end up booking my Internetwork Expert mock lab (Lab 3) for December 27. I plan on doing another one a week or so after this one, but I haven’t decided whether I will do Cisco’s Assessor or another IE…we’ll see how the first one goes.
Now, back to switching!Â
One last thing - does anyone know a better audio recording program than Windows Sound Recorder? (for recording my notes)
