Narbik day 2, 3, and 4

I don’t have much time before the final day of class here in Pasadena, but I thought I’d give a brief overview of the highlights of the class thus far.  (for me)

Day 2 - OSPF / EIGRP - I have not had much time before this week to look at OSPF filtering.  Narbik’s lecture was very informative and helped me to understand which method is utilized for each scenario.  Distribute-lists, area filter lists, and summary-address all have their place, but now I know where to use each of the options.  I was fairly confident that I had EIGRP pretty well covered before Tuesday, but there are a couple different things that I understand a little better now.  EIGRP stub has many more uses than I had initially considered.

Day 3 - BGP - Wednesday shall henceforth be known as BGPday.  It was all BGP and a good amount of lecture time, and man was it worth it.  I did, however, get tangled back up with conditional route advertisement using advertise-maps / non-exist-maps / exist-maps.  A light bulb went off for me though!  (as it did for many other things this week)  This topic should not be a problem for me moving forward…

Day 4 - RIPV2 and QOS - This day further solidified the information from Soup to Nuts and added a couple new ways to think about things.  Shaping and policing, which have been somewhat of a conundrum for me up to this point, were explained in the most clear and concise way.  I think I finally get it!  Now I just need to go see if I can explain it to the wife.  :)

Day 5 - Multicast and wrapup - to be cont.

This class has been very worthwhile and is exactly what I needed at this point in time.  Now, off to class for day 5…

Dude! Narbik was a great instructor for me. He had a way to communicate exactly what I needed to know and get those concepts into my head. Loved his OSPF lecture. Loved his QoS lecture. Like you, he put certain things into place for me that I’d never quite “owned” before.

And all the while making everyone laugh…it’s been a great week!

Looking forward to hearing about your experience I’ll be attending his bootcamp in March next year. Thanks

What’s the prerequisite for this boot camp? I mean this boot camp is for final stage or early stage of lab exam preparation.

Narbik wants you to have completed his “Soup to Nuts” workbook at a minimum. From my experience, I think you’d get more out of it from the midpoint to end of your preparation, after you’ve gotten several full-scale labs under your belt. My opinion is that it’s too much information, too fast otherwise.

How many hours needed to complete his “Soup to Nuts” workbook? I want to estimate when i should attend the boot camp. Thanks!

  7. Rick Says:

I sent several emails via Micronics web page, looks like nobody read it. Is there phone number to call?

I am planning to attend the bootcamp in December. Where did you stay and how was the overall environment? I hope it was informative for you. Anything you suggest i should be prepared for before i reach there?

  9. Carl Burkland Says:

I stayed at the Comfort Inn on Colorado Blvd. (1 block to the training facility) Decent accommodations and within walking distance…I’ll probably stay there when I go again in January.

Definitely complete all of the Soup to Nuts workbook…if you complete that, you may want to check with sales and see if you can get the Advanced workbooks prior to class.

I would recommend this class to any that would ask.

  10. Vivek Mahajan Says:

Thanks Carl, i havent received the workbook yet but how much time you reckon will take me to finish the soup to nuts workbook.

  11. Vivek Mahajan Says:

Sorry i should have asked how much you time you think it should take to finish the workbook.

  12. Carl Burkland Says:

It took me about 2 months to get through the entire workbook. I took it really slow over the topics that were somewhat new to me.
It really depends on your comfort level with the topics covered in the workbook.
    Good luck!
